It was August 1984, a regular Saturday at Brisbane’s Eagle Farm racecourse. Horse 5 in race 4 was a long shot but won in a close photo finish. Less than an hour later, Fine Cotton was disqualified, and the horse’s name became shorthand for one of Australia’s most notorious racing scandals.
